My driver showed me a mosque that was packed with men sitting on the ground outside. They were breaking their fast together with a free meal. Women were in a separate area. One evening we were stopped on the street corner by some boys who handed us a sealed plastic bag with various liquid substances. My first thought was a make-your-own Molotov cocktail to help them blow up the island country right in front of the police station where we stood.

Thankfully I watched more closely as they gave one bag to my driver who took it, and then to my daughter before giving one to me. They smiled so warmly I thought, ‘This is the strangest kind of warfare I’ve ever seen? They definitely keep this part out of the media.’

But seeing the contents I still imagined it to be something murderous, until my daughter popped the bag open and started eating the dates, drinking the milk and giving her cats the water. Then I settled down. Thankfully all that confusion in my soul never left my mouth so no one was forced to endure it. Those children were not trying to overthrow the country, they were trying to give tzedakah, by showing righteousness on the street!

Not only gorgeous to look at, as Ebrahim’s seed, they were even more stunning on the inside. I was beside myself with joy, and apparently so was my driver because he immediately found police officers who had been in the Arabian heat all day on their fast, and shared it with them. What an extraordinary day and it was only the beginning. Hamdillah!

American Expats wondered why my daughter and I walked boldly into off- limits areas of the country. It was where the beauty of Bahrain was most evident, not to mention the most unique finds. The village people were not idiots, they were mostly innocent, and became our new family.

Boldly going where only authoritative parenting will allow, I argued with security to let me inside for an adventure I planned ahead of time where my daughter and her friend could sky dive. They turned everyone away ahead of us because the longest standing Prime Minister showed up for a visit. Soon they let us inside where snipers lined the floor above. As the girls enjoyed themselves royal camera men took pictures like those 2 were celebrities.

When they finished the PM offered them anything they wanted from the snack bar and was delighted to engage them, only a little too much so over my child.
